A healthier and longer life in Spain than in Sweden

While Sweden loses ground in life expectancy, the people of Spain can expect a long life — in fact the longest life after the people of Japan when it comes to OECD countries. Average life expectancy rose by ten years between 1970 and 2013, according to a report from the economic cooperation organisation.
Japan tops the list. There the population is expected to reach an average of 83.4 years. But in Spain (83.2), Switzerland, Italy, France, Australia, Iceland and Israel too, the population will live longer than in Sweden.

Life expectancy in Spain has risen faster than in many other OECD countries and is now the second highest, at almost the same level as Japan’s, reports the OECD, which also adds that smoking is still a major problem in Spain, where four out of ten adults smoke every day. Obesity and being overweight are also singled out as problems.

Another survey recently showed that Spain is one of the world’s healthiest countries, according to The Independent. Here Spain placed clearly ahead of Sweden.
