Benidorm 5th in the world for property purchases.

Benidorm is the fifth most sought-after market for buying property in the world. So shows a measurement of the number of Google searches during the first quarter of 2017, carried out by the internet-based property portal The Move Channel. Spain’s figures for July show that the Costa Blanca, with towns such as Torrevieja and Benidorm, is where most is currently being sold.

Property sales in Spain have risen over the past three years. Last year sales rose by about 14 per cent and prices rose by about 5 per cent. Of all the homes sold, more than 13 per cent went into foreign hands. The positive trend has continued in 2017 and applies to practically every region.

Figures from the Spanish statistics office Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE) for July this year showed that the Costa Blanca had the most transactions in relative terms, 145 sales per 100,000 inhabitants. Then followed the Balearics with 144 sales.

The rise in July means property sales in Spain have risen for 19 months in a row, interrupted only in April, when a fall of 8 per cent was recorded. At the same time as sales rise, prices continue to climb. Figures from the Spanish land registry association for the second quarter show a price increase of 4.4 per cent (Colegio de Registradores de España).
