Continued strong growth in Spain

Spain’s economy will grow by 3.2 per cent this year. Next year, 2017, it is expected to grow by 2.3 per cent according to the European Commission. The Spanish finance minister Luis de Guindos believes the economy will grow more next year, by 3.6 per cent. It remains to be seen which of them is right.
Luis de Guindos says that lending to Spanish consumers is increasing, but from a low base, and that the government is aiming for 10 billion euros in extra tax revenue this year.
At the same time the European Commission expects Spain to meet its targets and reduce the public deficit by 4.6 per cent of GDP.
