The long-established resort of Benidorm on the Costa Blanca expects new tourism records in the summer of 2023. And it is the British who, despite Brexit, are sending the figures soaring compared with before the Covid-19 pandemic. There are more British tourists than domestic Spanish tourists in Benidorm.
The airports of Alicante and Valencia set new passenger records every month. Hotel occupancy for June stands at 80 per cent.
Our aim is not to break new records, but rather that demand and supply go hand in hand and that we can cover the losses from the pandemic years. A tourist industry that is sustainable environmentally, economically and socially is important to us, says the president of the hotel association Hosbec, Fede Fuster, to the newspaper ABC.
It is British tourists who dominate in Benidorm with 50.3 per cent of the market, followed by Spanish tourists with 35.5 per cent.
